About Us

The three week online course 'Dynamics of the water sector' is initiated by The Network University (TNU) and offered in cooperation with Noragric, the Centre for International Environment and Development Studies at the Agricultural University of Norway (NLH).

TNU is a center for collaborative learning that offers innovative academic courses via the Internet. The center addresses a worldwide audience of professionals and students and operates within a network environment.
Participants join knowledge networks as co-producers by sharing their professional experiences and engaging in interactive group discussions and assignments. TNU is rooted in the University of Amsterdam, the Netherlands.


The Coaches

Mona Hansen studied Political Science and International Relations at the Free University of Berlin and the University of Amsterdam. She graduated in 1998 on the social and ecological consequences of privatised public services, especially the water supply. During her studies she focused on processes of globalisation and liberalisation. Mona worked as a free lance journalist before coordinating the MA programmes at the International Center for Graduate Studies (ICGS) at Hamburg University.
Mona joined The Network University in 2000 as a course developer and moderator and has been involved in various courses, discussions and projects since. She is the coach and coordinator for the online programmes "Dynamics of the water sector" and "How to create an online course". Her main area of interest lies on the potential of ICT for capacity building and poverty reduction and on the advancement of small scale innovative solutions to promote sustainable development.

Gerd Junne is Professor in International Relations at the University of Amsterdam, and one of the initators of The Network University. He worked as a lecturer at the universities of Berlin (FU), Bremen and Konstanz (1970-1979), got a PhD in economics in 1975 (FU Berlin) for a dissertation on the Euromoney market and joined the University of Amsterdam in 1979.
His research focuses on the interaction between international political and economic relations, multinational corporations, impact of new technologies, development problems, international environmental policy. He has carried out research projects for the United Nations, FAO, ILO, the European Union, the VW Foundation, the Rathenau Institute, the German Parliament, Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dutch Ministry of Transport, Dutch National Research Program on Air Pollution and Climate Research.
