What is a Knowledge Based Networking Organisation?
A knowledge based networking organisation (KBNO) is a dynamic organisational design. It is based on the idea of connectivity and access to various streams of knowledge in an organisation. Decision making is transparent and strategy development is a collaborative act, not only in formulating, but particularly in implementing. Networking is done by people and facilitated by information and communication technologies. People are empowered to take the initiative to find colleagues to work with on innovative network projects in knowledge based networking organisations. They do this alongside the tasks or functions they perform in the unit they have as their home base.
Everybody has a portfolio of activities in a knowledge based networking organisation. It allows people to combine knowledge much easier, to connect personal contacts and to feel responsible for their own development and learning. At the same time, the organisation benefits tremendously from the synergy and the collaborative spirit. In the end a knowledge based networking organisation is not so much about structures, but has everything to do with a new way of working.
In short, knowledge based networking organisations are intelligent networks of productive relations between the various parts of an organisation or even between different organisations. It is focused on innovation and speed. Therefore it shapes networks where people share skills and knowledge at a cost efficient way. Easier access to markets are provided by collaborating together. The high growth of knowledge based networking organisations is embedded in their way of networking.
