THE NEW POLITICS CLUSTER
E-government in a changing landscape
A number of far-reaching changes have taken place as a result of the rapid expansion of Information and Communication Technologies. What is often called the 'new economy' is not just having its effect on the business world; it is also having fundamental repercussions on the way that government does business. Societal trends are demanding that government become increasingly aware of the networked nature of policy issues. Government is seen as one player (even if it is one with a special responsibility) within a wider network of interests that each has their influence on the co-production of policy. The move from being a central authority to having to work within political networks demands that old ideas of control and leadership be supplemented with new competences and insights.
Objective
The e-government course of The Network University is focussed on equipping its participants with these new competences and insights. Furthermore, the programme stimulates participants to reflect on the ways in which information technology and alternative forms of organisation (appropriate to the networked age) can be used for more participatory politics. The course content is filled with case studies and provides a strong degree of international benchmarking for its participants.
Who should attend this course?
This course is aimed at the various stakeholders (from government officials to representatives of social movements to players from the business world) who are confronted with the new rules of the game and wish to gain deeper insight into their impact on government.
