SKILLS FOR THE NETWORKED AGE CLUSTER

Mapping the future:
Even though we cannot predict the future with certainty, it is of course possible to develop different scenarios of what the future might hold. Based on an interaction of trends that can already be discerned, scenarios can be developed to provide a deeper understanding of present options for action and their consequences. The scenario methodology has been used successfully by various international companies (most noticeable by Shell) in assisting them in anticipating the unexpected.

Objective
In this course the participant will become familiar with how to go about systematically 'expecting the unexpected'. By gaining insight into the scenario methodology s/he will come to understand how it can be implemented to gain insight into the various opportunities that the future will hold, so that s/he can develop successful business strategies in the here and now.

Who should attend this course?
This course should be attended by knowledge workers and professionals; organisational strategists; as well as project leaders who would like to gain a deeper understanding of what the future might could mean for the area s/he works in.

Programme themes:

  • Thinking about the future (who's future; exploring alternative futures)
  • Moving between science fiction and fact (gaining insight into current trends as well as their counter trends and the way that these shape out futures)
  • The scenario methodology
  • From planning to scanning: what implications does the scenario methodology hold for the way my organisation works?
